Visual Cognitive-Manufacturing Group

The goal of the Visual Cognitive-Manufacturing Group (VCMG) is for Ireland to become a global leader in the research, development and deployment of vision technology as used in the manufacturing domain.

Visual Cognitive-Manufacturing Group

Purpose

The VCMG shall foster and promote effective collaboration between academia, industry, and technology companies, with the purpose of positioning Ireland as a global leader in the research, development and deployment of vision technology as used in the manufacturing domain.

Visual Cognitive-Manufacturing Group

DMI offers an environment where industry challenges in the area of visual-cognitive manufacturing can be solved through collaboration, and where manufacturing companies are able to access expertise, specialist knowledge, and a technological test environment in support of innovation initiatives.

The governance of the VCMG is founded on four principles:
  • Specialised Focus: The VCMG will focus exclusively on Computer Vision and A.I. technologies as applicable in the manufacturing domain.
  • Industry Driven: Steering of the VCMG will be based on a majority representation of manufacturer stakeholders, this will ensure that there is long-term tangible benefit to the manufacturing base.
  • Standardised Technology-based Solutions: The VCMG will target common manufacturing challenges and use cases raised by members, delivering standardised and reusable solutions. To ensure that collaboration between members is possible while background IP is protected.
  • Membership: No membership fees will be required to join the VCMG, however the group does expect that members actively contribute to the mission of the VCMG.

MISSION, VISION & VALUES

The mission of the Visual Cognitive-Manufacturing Group is to position Ireland as a global leader in the research, development and deployment of vision technology as used in the manufacturing domain. The VCMG aspires to enhance Ireland's reputation as the destination for manufacturing companies that rely on the adoption of computer vision technologies in their operations.

Trust, commitment, transparency and respect for confidential information will be maintained by VCMG members. The VCMG will adopt a “knowledge is for sharing” approach whereby all companies interested in the activities of the VCMG, feel welcome to contribute to and benefit from advancing its mission.
